An Auckland couple were lucky to escape from their luxury launch when it burst into flames on Wednesday night.
Eyewitness Morris Watson said the boat owner noticed a burning smell at about 9.30 pm.
He opened a hatch in the cockpit housing the batteries only to find the area engulfed in flames.

All are invited to wear pink on the day. COVID-19 restrictions will apply. Following the service Roma will take one last drive past the Grafton Basketball Stadium. A private cremation will follow.

Nonchalant koalas wedge into impossible forks, while Australian darter birds stare vigilantly at the ripples ready to spear. And tents peep through bushes as smoke rises from barbecues.
